Lead Control Valve
Gil Welsford
A local lead processing company had experienced problems with their ability to control the flow of liquid lead at close to 900 degrees F. A field sales engineer from the F.S.Welsford Co. surveyed the problem and came up with a custom designed valve for the application. The solution consisted of a butt-weld 3-piece metal seated V ported ball valve with a special five foot extension. This extention can be disconnected in several places for ease of maintenence at the site. The actuator would see elevated temperatures from the radiant heat of the liquid lead pot. An auxillary fan was installed inside the actuator to cool the 4-20 ma board as well as give longer life to the actuator. A manual overide mechanism allowed the customer to manually move the valve if there is a loss of power throughout the plant. The plant engineer describes the results of the special valve "the best control they have ever experienced". Another happy customer from working with the F.S.Welsford Co.
