Jordan Sliding Gate Valve
Russ Bailey
A large food producer required the use of a steam reducing regulator and a safety relief valve to protect the system in the event of a regulator failure.

A globe style pressure reducing valve was considered for the system. A globe style valve must be sized for failed flow for the size of the orifice in the valve not the operating flow with the plug intact. This approach is typical for globe style valves thus requiring relatively large safety relief valves.

A Jordan Sliding Gate Valve was then considered. It was found that the operating capacity was the same as the globe valve capacity, but the failed flow of the globe valve was much higher.

The Jordan Sliding Gate was ultimately selected; and although the cost of the globe style regulator was similar, the cost of the relief valve required for the Sliding Gate Valve was significantly lower. Therefore, the customer enjoyed a less costly package.
