Winters Instruments Gauges
Russ Bailey
A large vacuum pump manufacturer had several applications for panel mount gauges. Most were vacuum to various positive pressures to 300 psi in stainless steel in 2-1/2" and 4" sizes. There were also low pressure applications in positive and negative inches of water column ranges. The manufacturer used gauges from several manufacturers depending on the application. Pressure spikes and pulsation were causing frequent failures, and the panels had a poor appearance with a variety of dial types. The appearance was further degraded by sunlight damaging the plastic lenses found on some of the gauges.

Winters Instruments gauges were selected to solve these problems. Winters was able to supply gauges that met all application requirements, thus offering a cohesive appearance to the panels. Winters liquid filled the cases in all ranges except the inches of water column ranges. On the low pressure gauges, Winters provided a sintered screen and restrictor screw to dampen any pulsation or pressure spike. Winters also offered polycarbonate lenses with UV protection for long service life outdoors. Winters additionally provided the gauges with the end users logo printed on the dial face, as well as special ranges to match the systems at no additional charge. F. S. Welsford offered a stocking program for the logo gauges for fast, one-day deliveries.

Ultimately, the manufacturer was able to provide a better-looking package with longer, more trouble-free service life backed by Winters' 5-year guarantee while enjoying excellent delivery.
