Simple Level Control Systems
Russ Bailey

A yarn dying and spinning facility needed an inexpensive way to automate the filler systems on several dye tanks. Conventional level control systems and batch controllers were ruled out due to tank obstructions and cost. Steel racks were regularly immersed in the tanks further complicating the application. F.S. Welsford Company provided the solution with a Triac automated filler valve and a specially configured Solon #7PS pressure switch. Each pressure switch had an adjustable range of 0-100" WC allowing accurate fill points for each tank based on head pressure. The switches featured a push button reset switch that when pushed would start the fill sequence. When the level was reached, the switch would actuate the full port Triac ball valve on the fill line to the closed position. The sequence could only be restarted when the button was pushed again. This process offered a simple, rugged solution to a difficult application and was less costly as well.
